"Thailand highlight, the northern part of the country included Sukhothai the first capital city of Thailand during 13-14 century. Chiang Mai, was founded in 1296 and is located in a fertile valley some 1,000 feet above sea level. Chiang Rai, lies in the heart of the Golden Triangle."

Sukhothai
Sukhothai was Thailand's 13th to 14th Century capital. It is 427 kilometres north of Bangkok, is notable for massive sentinel stone Buddha images that preside over ruins within the old city walls.

Sukhothai Historical Park
It is a huge historical park and World Heritage Site. The remains of the old city are scattered within and around its ancient walls, betraying the golden era the city is now synonymous with. The classic religious art and architecture of the Sukhothai period have never lost their influence on Thai culture, and many later temples have emulated this style.

Si Satchanalai Historical Park
Another historical park, Si Satchanalai, is roughly 55 km from Sukhothai. The ruins date from the 13th to 15th centuries and are generally less restored and visited than those at Sukhothai, although no less inspiring. One of the many impressive sites, also named Wat Chang Lom, was completed in 1291. Stucco elephants flank its Sri Lankan-style stupa.

Doi Suthep Temple
Doi Suthep Temple which is 3,500 feet above the sea level. This temple can be reached by a staircase with 290 steps, flanks by Naga balustrades.

Elephants Training Camp
Take an excursion to the north of Chiang Mai to visit elephants working site. Watch the elephants taking their daily bath in the stream before beginning to haul timber in the forest. You will be surprised by their strength and clever team work.

Chiang Rai
Northeast of Chiang Mai lies in the very heart of the Golden Triangle and is particularly famed for majestic mountains and many hill tribe villages.

Golden Triangle
Its sights and scenes presenting images of a traditional way of life unknown in the western world. Travel to Chiang Saen, a charming old town along the Mekong River. Enroute visit villages of hill tribes, the colorful Yao and the Akha whose women wear complicated head dresses and mini-skirts. Board a long-tailed boat down river to the Golden Triangle, a spot where three countries-Laos, Burma and Thailand meet. At Mai Sai the Burma border connects the two countries together. Haggling for wood carvings is a spirited art and exercise your skills.
