Planning tours detail: The new town of Sukhothai lies almost 281 miles north of Bangkok, a shadow of it's past glory. To reach the new town it's possible to take a plane, train or bus (6 hours) from Bangkok to Phitsanulok. From Phitsanulok it's a 1 hour road journey.
In the town center there is a lively market where you will find local products and can taste the local food. Honey roasted bananas, sweet sticky rice, noodle soup and Thai barbecued chicken are favorite Thai snacks. It's also a good chance to get to know the local people who seem to enjoy trying out their English and listening to foreigners attempt to speak a few words of the Thai language. The new Sukhothai town has nothing to offer more than it's market.
The Sukhothai Historical Park is a few miles away and can easily be reached by car. Sukhothai Historical Park features ruins of the very extensive city, which flourished in the mid-13th to the late 14th century. Si Satchanalai Historical Park with its elegant temples. Si Satchanalai was the city where the deputy king of Sukhothai ruled until he ascended the throne in Sukhothai. |
