"Phra Buddha Chinnarat Phitsanulok"
Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat
Also known as Wat Yai, this famous temple is home to Phra Buddha Chinnarat which is regarded as one of the most beautiful Buddha images in Thailand. The temple was built in 1357 but it was until 1631 that King Ekathotsarot applied the gold coating to the Buddha. The brilliance of this Buddha is accentuated by the huge black and gold pillars which support the roof. These act to draw the eyes to the image when you are seated on the floor. The beautiful mother of pearl inlaid doors were added by King Bornkot in 1756. Behind the temple is a 36 meters Prang with a staircase leading to the niche.
Folks Museum
This interesting museum is on Wisutkaset Road. It contains a display of exhibits from everyday rural life in Thailand and is well known for its basketry, pottery and other agricultural implements and tools. The museum is open every day.
Buddha Foundry
Across the road from the folk museum (and under the same management) is the site of the casting of a huge range of bronze Buddha images made from the 'lost wax method'. During your visit here, you should be able to view some part of the manufacturing taking place and there is also a small shop on the premises which sell a range Buddha products.
